Why weather changes a fragrance

Warm skin encourages fragrant materials to evaporate and travel, making perfume feel louder and sometimes sweeter. Cold slows that movement. Humidity can blur airy notes while making dense sweetness feel heavy.

There are no forbidden notes for a season. Concentration, spray count, setting and texture matter as much as the ingredient list.

Spring: green, petalled and bright

Mild days suit citrus over soft woods, sheer florals, tea, neroli, green leaves and transparent musk. They echo the season without becoming too literal.

Temperatures shift quickly, so begin with a moderate application. A fresh woody or musky base will carry an airy opening into a cooler evening.

Summer and monsoon: make space

In intense heat, look for citrus, aromatic herbs, watery florals, mineral notes, vetiver and dry woods. Apply less than you would in winter, especially in offices, classrooms and shared transport.

Humidity can soften a perfume’s edges. Green citrus, tea, aromatic woods and clean musks tend to retain definition. One spray on safe fabric can extend wear; always test delicate or pale materials first.

Autumn and winter: depth without excess

Cool air welcomes sandalwood, oud accords, leather, incense, amber, tobacco, patchouli, vanilla and spice. These materials can feel polished and enveloping when summer no longer magnifies them.

Give the scent time to warm on skin before adding more. It may begin quietly outdoors, then bloom in a heated room or crowded gathering.
